Is Nu-Derm Right For You? Our Kelowna Experts Explain

What Is Nu-Derm?

Nu-Derm is a skincare system used in the therapeutic treatment of premature aging. While aging is a natural process, sun and other damage to the skin causes slower skin cell turnover, resulting in an accumulation of damaged cells. This makes skin look dull and can increase age or sun spots, redness, sallowness, and more. Nu-Derm specifically targets pigmentation to reduce those issues and help smooth out rough skin, making skin appear younger and healthier overall. If over the counter and drugstore treatments haven’t helped, you may need something stronger, like prescription-only Nu-Derm.

Because it focuses on lightening and pigmentation, Nu-Derm is recommended for:

  • Age/sun spots
  • Redness
  • Sallowness
  • Hyperpigmentation

The active ingredient in Nu-Derm is hydroquinone, which at 4% requires a prescription due to new regulations from Health Canada. As a medical professional, Dr. Peterson will be able to continue or begin Nu-Derm treatment for you. Nu-Derm has a Continuum line for use after the initial treatment system. Nu-Derm is safe to use under the care of a medical professional like our Kelowna staff.

Nu-Derm systems have an option for normal to oily skin and normal to dry skin.

The Normal to Dry kit includes:

  • Gentle Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Clear
  • Exfoderm®
  • Blender®
  • Obagi Hydrate®
  • Sun Shield Matte Broad Spectrum

The Normal to Oily kit includes:

  • Foaming Gel
  • Toner
  • Clear
  • Exfoderm® Forte
  • Blender®
  • Obagi Hydrate®
  • Sun Shield Matte Broad Spectrum SPF 50

About Hydroquinone

Additional products are available, including Sunfader® specifically designed for sun spots. If you are using the Nu-Derm system, it is imperative you follow the routine and include sunscreen. Hydroquinone and any exfoliating product designed to rejuvenate skin makes you vulnerable to sun damage while using it because of the way it helps remove layers of dead skin cells.

Skin reddening and a mild burning or tingling sensation may occur, but if a stronger reaction occurs discontinue immediately and call your doctor. Clear, Blender, and Sunfader contain hydroquinone; the other products do not. Hydroquinone is a skin-bleaching agent. The treatment system lasts up to twenty-four weeks, and if no results can be seen after twelve it is recommended you discontinue use. Always talk to your doctor before beginning or ending prescription treatments unless a strong reaction occurs.

I recently had liposuction done by Dr. Peterson to fix Coolsculpt I had had done that left me uneven. He was very professional, caring and compassionate and assured me everything could be fixed. I can't express my gratitude to Dr. Peterson for what an amazing job he did and how well he took care of me. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a plastic surgeon, in fact I have recommended him to many friends and they have all been very happy. My experience at the clinic was amazing, right from the beginning talking with Cynthia and the amazing care I got from all the nurses, I felt very special.
