The nose job or rhinoplasty is one the most referenced and common cosmetic procedures available. Both men and women opt to have this procedure for cosmetic and health related reasons. Regardless of the reasoning, it’s important to know all the facts pertaining to nose jobs. Kelowna’s board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Brian Peterson, is debunking the most common nose job myths.
Myth 1) Nose Jobs Are Simple – False. In fact, nose jobs are one of the most difficult procedures plastic surgeons perform. Every change that is made can affect another part of the nose so plastic surgeons must be meticulous during surgeries to ensure that everything fits nicely together.
Myth 2) Rhinoplasty Is Covered By Insurance – False. Unless you suffer from breathing issues or have a deviated septum and general practitioner referral, nose jobs are viewed as cosmetic procedures and therefore are not covered.
Myth 3) I Can Make My Nose Look Like A Celebrity’s – False. This is not a realistic expectation. Everyone has a different facial structure and there’s not a universal nose that will fit every face.
Myth 4) I Will Have to Get Multiple Nose Jobs Throughout My Life – False. In rare cases some patients require an additional minor surgery, but 90% of the time nose jobs are a onetime procedure that a patient can benefit from forever.
Myth 5) Only the Affluent Can Afford Nose Jobs – False. The average U.S. income of rhinoplasty patients is $50,000.
