Breast Augmentation, Mammoplasty

Flatter Your Figure with Enhanced Curves

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that involves the use of breast implants to increase breast volume and projection, or to achieve better symmetry when breasts are moderately disproportionate in size and shape. This procedure is used to cosmetically enlarge naturally small breasts frequently as the result of hereditarily causes, asymmetrical breasts, and loss in breast size due to weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding.

PROCEDURE:

Breast augmentation incisions are typically placed in areas that produce minimal visible scarring. Options usually include inframammary crease or periareolar incisions. Incisions do vary depending on implant type and degree of enlargement desired. Dr. Peterson will determine the location of these incisions based on your individual needs. Implant size and type will be chosen during your consultation and Dr. Peterson will give you all the information you need to make an informed decision. After the incision is made the implant will then be placed into a pocket under the pectoral muscle, also known as a submuscular placement. The exact method of implant insertion and positioning depends on each individual’s case, such as the breast enlargement desired, body type and Dr. Peterson’s recommendations. The incisions are then closed using layered sutures in the breast tissue and skin in order to minimize scar formation. Visible incision lines will fade with time. Breast augmentation plastic surgery requires the patient to be under a general anaesthesia and the procedure is carried out on a day care basis.

RESULTS:

The results of a breast augmentation are immediately apparent and as the swelling and incision lines from the surgery reduce, your results will only continue to improve as you recover and realize the fulfillment of your goal for fuller breasts.

RECOVERY:

Initial wound healing will usually take 5 to 10 days. Following this period you may return to normal activities, provided that you don’t engage in strenuous exercise or heavy lifting. The swelling and incision lines will continue to reduce over time. You will be given detailed instructions on wound care, pain medication and the use of a supportive sports bra and follow up appointment with Dr. Peterson before you are discharged.
