Chin surgery also known as mentoplasty, is the plastic surgery that helps reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery to the bone. Many times a plastic surgeon may recommend chin surgery to a patient having nose surgery or rhinoplasty in order to achieve facial balance and proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. Chin cosmetic surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.
Chin implants can increase the size and projection of the chin that does not project in proportion with the forehead and mid-face. A small or recessed chin can also be described as one that seems to disappear into the neck of an individual of normal weight, rather than appearing as a distinct facial feature.
PROCEDURE:
Chin implants are usually made of a firm silicone material that is malleable and will conform to the mandible bone. Surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and the implant is held in place by small screws. Chin implant surgery is often combined with liposuction of the submental neck and jowl area.
