Lift Your Spirits With Face and Neck Surgery

Facelift plastic surgery, clinically known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that reduces the appearance of aging in the face and neck, such as sagging in the midface, deep creases below the lower eyelids, deep creases along the nose extending to the corner or the mouth. Fat that has fallen or is displaced, loss of muscle tone in the lower face may create jowls. Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw can make even a person of normal weight appear to have a double chin. Sometimes facelift surgery is performed in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as brow lift to correct sagging or deeply furrowed brow, and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes or dermabrasion to smooth facial wrinkles.

While there are other non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments available, it is only through facelift surgery that fantastic long lasting results can be achieved.

PROCEDURE:

The placement and lengths of the incisions vary depending on the facelift technique that best suites you. A traditional facelift incision often begins in the hairline at the temples, continues around the ear and ends in the hairline behind the ear. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the face, jowls and neck. Underlying tissue is repositioned; commonly the deeper layers or the face and the muscles are also lifted. Skin is re-draped over the uplifted contours and excess skin is trimmed away. A second incision under the chin may be necessary to further improve an aging neck. Sutures or skin adhesives close the incisions. Once healed, the incision lines from a facelift are well concealed within the hairline and in the natural contours of the face and ear. The operation requires general anaesthesia or deep I.V. sedation, and is performed on a day care basis. Dr. Peterson will help you determine the best technique to meet your individual needs and expectations at the time of your consultation.

RESULTS:

The visible improvements of a facelift appear as initial swelling subsides. Your final result should not only restore a more youthful and rested appearance, but also help you feel more confident about yourself.

RECOVERY:

When surgery is completed, a thin tube may be present to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin. Dr. Peterson will decide what the best is for you during surgery. No actual dressings are applied, and you will be seen the day after surgery to make sure all is going well. You will be given specific instructions that may include how to care for the surgical site, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in overall health.
