A breast lift with augmentation or augmentation mastopexy is a plastic surgical procedure that corrects sagging of the breasts at the same time that creates rounder and fuller breasts. A breast lift is done to elevate the position of the nipple areolar complex to a more youthful position and skin and breast tissue is tightened to correct sagging of the breasts. Then an implant is added to enhance the volume of the breasts. The two components of this surgery are performed at the same time.
PROCEDURE:
In general the incisions are made around the areola, down the lower pole of the breast and often through the crease. The extent of the incisions are unique to each specific case and based on your particular body type and desired breast shape and size Dr. Peterson will suggest which option is best for you. Some of the incision lines are hidden within the natural folds of the breast while others remain visible. Layered sutures are placed in the breast tissue to create and support the new breast contours. Sutures, skin adhesives or surgical tape or a combination of all three may be used to close the incisions. Any visible incision lines will fade with time and the procedure requires general anaesthesia and is performed on a day care basis.
RECOVERY:
After your surgery is complete your incisions will be covered by dressings or bandages and you will be required to wear a support bra to reduce the post-procedural swelling and promote healing. You will also be given detailed instructions regarding how best to care for your breasts as they heal following surgery, medications to apply or take to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection and when to see Dr. Peterson again.
