Abdominoplasty

Trim Your Abdomen for a Smoother Shape

Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to restore your figure by creating a firmer, flatter shapelier abdomen. This is attained by removing unwanted excess fat and skin and by repairing abdominal muscles. Abdominoplasty is often combined with liposuction plastic surgery to achieve the best possible results. However, like liposuction, abdominoplasty is not a treatment for obesity and should not be seen as a shortcut to weight loss. For the most part, abdominoplasty does not reduce the appearance of stretch marks although some improvement may be made if the marks are located on skin that will be removed. For women who have had caesarean section surgery, the old scars will either be removed or subtlety integrated into the scars from the abdominoplasty.

PROCEDURE:

For a full abdominoplasty general anaesthesia is required and the procedure is carried out on a day care basis. A horizontal-oriented incision is made in the area above the pubic line. The shape and length of which will depend on the level of correction necessary. Through this incision, weakened abdominal muscles are repaired and sutured while excess fat and skin are removed. A second incision around the navel may be necessary to remove excess skin in the upper abdomen. Layered closure of the incision with absorbable sutures is performed in conjunction skin dressings and a compression garment.

RESULTS:

A tummy tuck procedure will give a firmer, flatter abdomen and an abdominal contour that is more proportionate with your body type and weight. Within a few weeks, you should be standing tall and confident about your new slimmer profile.

You will be given specific instructions to aid your recovery from tummy tuck surgery of how to care for the surgical site, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection, and when to follow-up with Dr. Peterson.
