Am I a Candidate For Body Contouring?
If you eat well and exercise regularly, yet are still not completely happy with your figure, then a body contouring procedure may be right for you.
Suitable candidates are those that:
- Are within a healthy range for BMI
- Don’t have any chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease
- Have established healthy habits including a consistent, balanced diet and regular exercise
- Don’t smoke
Before deciding on any body contouring procedure, whether it’s a neck lift or a Brachioplasty, it’s best to book a consultation with your plastic surgeon as they will be able to determine whether it is a safe and effective option for your specific aesthetic needs.
Which Body Contouring Option is Right For Me?
At Peterson MD, we offer our Kelowna patients a wide range of surgical and non-surgical body contouring options depending on their specific problem areas and aesthetic needs.
Here are some of our most popular treatments:
1. Body Contouring for ARMS
A Brachioplasty, more commonly known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure designed to remove any excess skin and fat in the upper arm.
A Brachioplasty will:
-
Eliminate any loose or sagging skin from the area between the underarm and elbow
-
Reshape your upper arm for smoother skin and improved contours
-
Create a more toned, firm and proportionate arm appearance
-
Reduce stubborn, localized pockets of fat in the upper arm area
What To Expect From A Brachioplasty:
-
For this body contouring procedure, you may receive a local or general anesthesia. Once this is administered, your plastic surgeon will make a small incision in the armpit and perform liposuction to remove any fat.
-
A brachioplasty typically takes 1-3 hours and is often done on an outpatient basis.
Brachioplasty Results:
- You will be able to notice the results from an arm lift almost immediately. The swelling should resolve completely in a couple of months.
- Your plastic surgeon will be able to best advise on how long you should stay home from work and/or refrain from exercise. He/she may also recommend that you wear a compression garment for the first few days to promote healing.
2. Body Contouring for NECK
A necklift, or lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical body contouring procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck.
When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, a necklift can successfully:
-
Tighten the neckline
-
Improve the appearance of jowls
-
Reposition the soft tissues of the face and neck for incredible rejuvenation
What To Expect From A Necklift:
- The necklift may be performed under local or general anesthesia, but usually doesn’t involve an overnight stay.
- Your plastic surgeon will make incisions under the chin and behind the ear, allowing them to tighten the muscles and skin.
- Liposuction may be used if you have excessive amounts of fat in the chin area as well.
- You will notice a difference from your necklift immediately although the final results may not be clear until at least 3-6 months after the surgery.
- Our Kelowna necklift patients are advised to rest for at least 3 weeks and take care not to bend over or lift heavy objects. You should be able to return to work after 10 days.
3. Body Contouring for THIGHS
For patients who have sagging skin on their thighs due to massive weight loss or aging, a medial thigh lift can create a more toned and taut appearance. Liposuction can be done at the same time if excess fat needs to be removed from the area as well.
Some of the incredible benefits of a medial thigh lift include:
- Removes the cellulite look of thighs
- Gives your thighs a smoother, more toned appearance
- Improved self confidence
- Enhances the success of your weight loss
What To Expect From A Thigh Lift:
- During a medial thigh lift procedure, the patient will be placed under general anesthetic. Your plastic surgeon will then reposition the skin tissue and fat of the inner thigh.
- The extent of tightening and removal will depend on each patient’s individual case and this will be determined during your pre-surgical consultation.
Thigh Lift Results
- After your medial thigh lift, you may be required to wear a compression garment for up to 6 weeks. While there will be swelling, this should resolve completely within a few months.
- Typically, patients should take 7-10 days off work but this may be longer, depending on the nature of your job. Your surgeon will advise you to refrain from strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks.
Our team can help you determine if you are a candidate for medial thigh lifts in Kelowna.
