Are you suffering from hyperhidrosis? Learn how the Botox skin treatments at our Kelowna clinic can help reduce excessive sweating.
Overview
Hyperhidrosis is a common skin condition which causes excessive sweating either over the whole body or certain areas such as:
- Under arms
- Palms
- Feet
- Face/Chest
- Groin
At our Kelowna clinic, we understand how much of an impact hyperhidrosis can have on the quality of your life.
We offer effective skin treatments, including Botox, to help minimize the symptoms of your condition so you no longer have to feel self-conscious or embarrassed again.
What is Hyperhidrosis?
While there is no guideline to determine what a normal amount of sweating is, if excessive sweating has begun to interfere with your work and/or personal life, you may have hyperhidrosis.
Some of the symptoms include:
- Avoiding physical contact with other people (e.g. shaking hands or hugging)
- Sweating makes your daily activities more difficult (such as driving or using the computer)
- Avoiding physical activity because it exacerbates your symptoms
- Becoming socially withdrawn and self conscious about your sweating
Although not life-threatening, the symptoms of hyperhidrosis can cause significant distress. If any of the above signs sounds familiar, there are a range of skin treatments available to help relieve your symptoms.

Hyperhidrosis Skin Treatments
For patients who are suffering from excessive sweating, there is good news! There are a number of effective skin treatments, including lifestyle changes and Botox, which can help minimize your symptoms and reduce any discomfort.
Lifestyle Changes
When it comes to treating hyperhidrosis, it is recommended to start with the least invasive skin treatments including:
- Wearing loose and/or light clothing
- Avoiding hyperhidrosis triggers such as spicy food, hot drinks or alcohol
- Managing stress levels
- Weight loss
- Using talcum powder to absorb excess sweat
- Wearing black or white clothes to minimize signs of sweating
- Armpit shields can absorb excessive sweat and protect your clothes
While lifestyle changes may not cure primary hyperhidrosis, they are an effective way to improve your condition and help your confidence.
Botox Treatment
If lifestyle changes and topical treatments such as antiperspirants and medications do not work in alleviating your symptoms, then your skin care professional may recommend Botox as a possible treatment for hyperhidrosis.
Here is what to expect from a Botox skin treatment:
How does the Botox Treatment Work?
Botox is an FDA approved skin treatment for hyperhidrosis and helps eliminate symptoms by blocking the chemical nerve signals which stimulate sweat glands.
The Botox is injected into the treatment area using an ultra-fine needle, preventing sweat from being produced in those areas.
How long is the Botox treatment?
The duration of the Botox treatment depends on the size and location of the treatment area.
However, on average, one treatment takes 20 minutes.
When will I see the results of the Botox treatment?
Botox takes effect quickly and you will be able to notice a reduction in sweating within a few days.
It can take up to one week for the Botox to take full effect.
Are the Botox results permanent?
While the effects of Botox are long-lasting, they are not permanent.
Follow-up treatments will be required every 6-8 months to maintain the great results.
Am I a Candidate for this skin treatment?
Most patients who suffer from hyperhidrosis are suitable candidates for Botox.
However, this skin treatment is NOT recommended for patients who:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have known allergies to Botox
