V-Beam Laser Therapy For Spider and Varicose Veins: What You Need to Know
The VBeam is a pulse dye laser that has long been considered the ‘gold standard’ for treating issues related to rosacea, port wine stains, broken capillaries, and spider veins. It can also be used to target superficial pigmentation discoloration, stretch marks, acne scars, warts, and more.
What is the VBeam Laser Treatment Like?
During this treatment, the VBeam laser device is used to deliver controlled laser energy to the desired treatment area. Most patients report a mild warming or tingling sensation during this process.
What happens: The VBeam laser produces an intense, yet gentle, burst of light that selectively destroys the blood vessels of your spider veins without damaging the surrounding tissue.
Am I a Candidate For VBeam Laser Therapy
VBeam laser may not be recommended for patients who are darkly pigmented because it may be less effective in damaging the blood vessels of the spider veins or other vascular lesions. In addition to this, the depth of penetration of the VBeam laser therapy is limited to vessels about 1.5mm in depth.
What does this mean? Vessels deeper than 1.5mm may not respond as effectively to the therapy. Additionally, blue vessels may not respond as well as red ones.
What Results Can I Expect From This Treatment?
Most patients notice immediate changes after just one VBeam laser treatment, although the results and their durability will vary depending on the:
- Condition being treated
- Lifestyle of the patient
- Type of veins being treated
Treatments with the Vbeam laser may consist of multiple treatments. For facial veins, one treatment may be sufficient for clearance, but a second visit is recommended for the best results.
These treatments occur on an average of every 6-12 weeks. However, each individual situation will vary and it’s always best to discuss the way forward with your skin specialist.
