So let’s be honest. You’ve eaten well, worked out hard and yet there are those few extra pounds you just can’t seem to get rid of at the gym. Many of my patients are medical tourists flying from all over Canada for our cutting edge Liposuction procedure.
Here are some things you need to know about Liposuction:
- Usually targets hips, thighs, abdomen, buttocks and chin.
- Takes one to two hours on average but can run longer.
- Patients can expect full recovery in seven to ten days.
- Patients should wear compression garments for six weeks after the procedure.
Often, my patients elect to undergo LIPOSUCTION in conjunction with other procedures like breast augmentation, breast lift, facial rejuvenation, etc. If you’re going to "go under" consider this efficiency.
Here are 5 interesting facts you may not have known about Liposuction:
- Liposuction is not necessarily for "obese" patients. The ideal candidate is about 30% away from their ideal goal. Liposuction removes fat deposits that do not respond to exercise and lifestyle and are more likely due to genes.
- Liposuction works by breaking up fat deposits. Here’s how it works:
- First the doctor makes small incisions in the skin.
- Then the doctor injects medication and bleeding control.
- A hollow tube is then injected through the incision to break up the deposits.
- A small surgical vacuum sucks out the fat.
- New techniques to reduce bleeding and bruising include the use of lasers and ultrasound to liquefy fat and make it easier to remove.
- Once you remove your drains and compression bandages, you can start seeing your new look.
- It is highly recommended that you engage a plastic surgeon for this procedure. In rare occasions, there may be risk of blood clots (like any other surgery). A plastic surgeon has extensive training for both prevention and management.
It’s a new year and this may be an opportunity to finally take this one resolution off the table. Give us a call to schedule a consult and discuss alternatives.
