Seeking treatment for banding, wrinkles, or sagging in the neck area? Look no further than our handy guide.
Many individuals focus on the face when it comes to rejuvenation, but many other areas, such as the neck and hands may also show telltale signs of ageing.
As we age, skincare concerns around the neck area can include:
- turkey wattle
- jowls
- sagging skin
- prominent neck muscle bands
A necklift surgery can address these issues and restore a youthful contour to your features. Learn more in our FAQ below!
Necklift Surgery FAQ
What Do I Need To Do To Prepare For A Necklift?
While each patient’s case is different, your doctor may request that you:
- stop smoking
- avoid certain medications and supplements
How does the necklift procedure work?
Your surgeon will provide you intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia, depending on your requirements.
The traditional necklift provides more dramatic changes, and begins with an incision that begins in the sideburn area, and continues behind the ear, along the neck’s hairline, and to the other ear.
At this point, your surgeon will redistribute fat and tighten muscle if required. Once the contouring is completed, the skin is repositioned and trimmed as well. This procedure may be combined with liposuction for added contouring.
A less intensive liposuction procedure could include liposuction only, or a smaller incision only near the ear. This option provides less noticeable scars, but the trade-off is that patients should expect less dramatic results.
Other variants of the necklift include lifting only the skin, or repositioning both the muscle.
Is a necklift the only way to rejuvenate my neck?
Other rejuvenation options for the neck and jaw include Thermage and laser therapy.
How long is the neck lift recovery period?
Neck lift recovery can involve wearing a supportive neck brace for some time, as well as taking approximately one week off work, and a complete recovery can take between 2-4 months.
How long will my neck lift results last?
A neck lift can significantly reduce the ageing process, but it cannot entirely stop it. In other words, your neck area will look significantly more youthful, but will also continue ageing normally from that point onwards.
How can I preserve my results? What can I do to keep my neck area youthful?
Whether you’ve just undergone a neck lift or you’re interested in preventive measures, it’s never too early or too late to start caring for the skin in your neck area. Most skincare products and publicity focus on the face area, but the neck area can be just as delicate and is often exposed to the elements and sun damage in the same way as the face is. To prevent damage, ensure that you use moisturizer and sunscreen regularly.
