A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a popular form of cosmetic procedure designed to reduce many common signs of aging in the face, jawline, and neck area. For many, a neck lift can be used to create a more youthful, slimmer profile with results that can last for years. When completed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, a neck lift can address:

Is a Neck Lift Right for You?
When you think about cosmetic surgery, a neck lift may not be what first comes to mind. Most people pay more close attention to cosmetic surgeries around the breasts, stomach, and face. However, a neck lift is a very common procedure for many men and women who are looking to:
- Get a slender neck
- Redefine their jawline
- Remove the folds and lines that come with excess skin and fat
- Reduce the effects of aging, sagging neck skin
- Rejuvenate your appearance to give your confidence a boost
What Is the Procedure?
A neck lift is not just one type of operation. It is usually performed using several different techniques to remove and redistribute neck fat and reshape the neck to the desired appearance. In a typical neck lift, incisions are made under the chin and/or behind the ears to access the neck muscles that will be tightened and to have an entry point where your surgeon will be able to safely remove excess fat, tissue, and skin.
Depending on what you and your surgeon have chosen, liposuction may be used in addition to other procedures to contour the neck to the desired shape.
What Is the Recovery Period Like?
Your surgeon will discuss the specific recovery requirements during your initial consultations and upon completion of the operation. However, there are some typical things that you should expect. Normally, there are no dressings that will be administered, nor will you need to have your condition monitored for a period immediately after your appointment. You should be able to immediately return home and rest. Generally, the pain, bruising, and swelling will have completely subsided after approximately two weeks, and all signs of the procedure will be gone by around two months.
How Are the Results?
Setting realistic expectations from the procedure is important so that you can be confident that a neck lift is right for you and that your desired results are attainable. The majority of our patients who undergo the procedure at our Kelowna plastic surgery clinic are thrilled with their appearance. Many patients cite a rejuvenated appearance, boost in confidence, and healthy-looking skin as the main benefits of the procedure.
Depending on the patient, the look of the procedure can last anywhere between 5-15 years. Once the results begin to diminish, patients are able to opt for a second neck lift procedure to reinvigorate their appearance.
