How to Decide on your Breast Implant Size, Shape, Type, and Profile

Are you thinking about getting a breast augmentation but are unsure of how to choose the right implant? When deciding what is right for you, there are many different options of type, shape, size, and profile. Here is how you can select the right breast implant for you.

If you want to undergo a breast augmentation, you must plan everything out accordingly so that you can get the perfect results. One of the most important decisions you need to make is what you want your breasts to look like after the operation. To do this, you need to decide on the following four key elements regarding your implants:

  • Type
  • Size
  • Shape
  • Profile

Once you are confident in these four factors, your breast augmentation procedure is ready to commence, and you can start to look and feel your best.

Deciding The Right Size, Shape, Type, and Profile of your Breast Implants

The worst possible outcome from a breast augmentation surgery is that you are unhappy with the results. The most important factor in determining whether you will be pleased with your appearance after the surgery is choosing the right implants. When doing so, you must understand how the size, type, and profile of each implant will impact your body and appearance. To help you make the right decision, here are some guidelines to follow:

Size

The size of your breasts is likely the most essential factor in your decision to get breast implants. Honestly, you will probably change your decision more than once, but what is most important is that you are satisfied with your final choice.

Breast implants are measured in their cubic centimeter (cc) volume, rather than cup size. The size of implants ranges from around 125 cc (approximately a half a cup size) up to 1200 cc. A good rule of thumb is that for every cup size you wish to go up, add on 250 cc. For example, if you are looking to increase your breasts' size by one and a half cups, then it is likely that you would want approximately 375 cc sized implants.

When deciding on the right size for you, your surgeon will consider many factors, including your frame, current cup size, and desired size to provide the best recommendation possible.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING BREAST IMPLANTS

Shape

When deciding on the shape of your breasts, you have two options available: round or teardrop. Round implants are symmetrical in shape and give the breast equal fullness around the nipple while teardrop-shaped implants are designed to have more volume on the bottom portion of the implant, adding more definition to the area below the nipple.

You have likely seen both types of implants but did not know there was such a difference. The difference comes in that teardrop breast implants provide a more natural appearance while still creating a full, desired shape and round implants offer a more dramatic level of fullness and outward projection. Both options are quite popular, and it simply comes down to whichever look you prefer.

Type

If you are going to undergo a breast augmentation surgery, you can choose between saline and silicone implants. It's important to understand that both choices have their pros and cons, so it's important to discuss your options with your plastic surgeon to ensure you are making the right choice. Here are some things you should know:

  • Saline implants may provide a more customized fit and firmer feel
  • Silicone implants are softer and have a more natural appearance
  • Typically, silicone implants are more popular, but saline implants may be able to provide a more unique fit to your body.

Profile

The profile of the breast determines how drastically your breasts will project outwards from your chest. The best way to think about it is to think about a half-circle. The further that the apex of the curved part of the half-circle is away from the flat portion, the greater the profile level. Depending on your desired appearance, you may choose a more low profile implant to provide a more subtle, natural look, or you may opt for a higher profile implant, which gives more projection and prominence.
