Every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day, but for some their pre-wedding beauty regime extends beyond the perfect dress and a trip to the hairstylist. Over the past few years more brides, and grooms, preparing for the big day have explored plastic surgery and other rejuvenation procedures in order to look their best for the occasion.
According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery not only are more women seeking out pre-wedding plastic surgery but the majority of women polled cited their wedding day as the number one special event they would consider undergoing plastic surgery for. The most popular procedures included fillers, rhinoplasties (nose jobs), face lifts and blepharoplasties (eyelid surgery).
But it isn’t only brides and grooms that are turning to plastic surgery in preparation for the big day. Members of the bridal party and the parents of the happy couple are also more likely to seek cosmetic procedures prior to the ceremony. According to the New York Times some brides are even opting for rather unconventional thank you gifts for their bridesmaids including group Botox treatments. As one 35 year old bride-to-be put it "If I were 25 or 26 and getting married, a bracelet, necklace or matching earrings would be fine. Giving them a bracelet isn't as special as spending an evening together. Plus, as you get older, everyone is more conscientious about their skin and appearance."
Engagements are also prompting an increase in procedures as many women are seeking hand lifts to better show off their engagement rings for both selfies and professional engagement photos. This procedure takes many forms depending on what the bride-to-be wants to achieve. Some opt for tissue fillers in order to make the skin more even, while others opt for lasers to remove spots and other imperfections.
