What to Expect From Your Permanent Makeup Treatment
Permanent makeup is a method of applying natural pigments to the dermal layer of your skin. At our Kelowna clinic, our team of specialists use a state-of-the-art technique that is medically proven and specifically designed to give you the safest and best results.
How is it performed? The process of this skin treatment is very similar to getting a tattoo. Your permanent makeup specialist will apply the permanent makeup using a needle which penetrates your skin and releases the pigment.
Will I experience any discomfort? A topical anesthetic is often applied to numb the treatment area and minimize any pain or discomfort.
How long will the results last? For most patients, the results of a permanent makeup treatment will last up to 5 years. After this, you will require a touch up to maintain your desired look.
Taking Care of Your Skin Before and After Permanent Makeup
When performed by a skilled aesthetician, permanent makeup is a very safe and effective procedure. However, like all cosmetic treatments, you must follow all the pre and post treatment care instructions given to you to minimize any treatment risks.
Here are some pre and post treatment care tips to follow:
How to Look After Your Skin Before Your Treatment
- Let your skin breathe as much as possible for at least one month before your procedure.
- Ensure the treatment area is free of eczema, psoriasis and ingrown hairs.
- Avoid using any anti-aging treatments/products and anti-acne products on the treatment area for at least 30 days before the procedure.
- Don’t drink alcohol or caffeine or exercise the day before your treatment
- Avoid tanning for 4 weeks before the procedure. If you have a sunburn, allow it to heal before undergoing treatment.
- Avoid blood thinners for 1 week before the procedure.
- Avoid cosmetic treatments such as Botox, chemical peels, microdermabrasion or facials for at least one month before and after your permanent makeup procedure.
How to Look After Your Skin Following Your Permanent Makeup Treatment
- Avoid rubbing, picking, or scratching the treatment area. It’s important to let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Disturbing it may cause scarring.
- Avoid applying makeup, sunscreen, or skin care products on the treatment area for at least 2 weeks.
- Avoid tanning and direct sun exposure for at least 30 days following your procedure.
- Sleep with your face turned up for the first 2 weeks after the treatment.
- Do not wash your face directly for at least 14 days.
- Avoid excessive sweating for the 7-10 day healing period.
Post-Treatment Tip: It’s very normal to experience some swelling in the treatment area. To reduce this, and any discomfort, you should apply an ice pack to the area. This should relieve any uncomfortable symptoms.
